A VANISHED VOICE

We were working too hard over Halloween and thus were unable to make this year's Official Houdini Séance. It was held in Baltimore, at the Maryland Jewish Museum's excellent Houdini exhibition. Among other things, the exhibition devotes much time, space and quanta to Houdini's psychic exposés. We've recently been writing about them after unearthing little-known material from Harry's friend Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Which led us to the above clip from 1927, the only existing film record of Sir Arthur with synch sound.

Seven years later, the audio recording below was made at another séance, this one at the Royal Albert Hall. This one purports to be the same Conan Doyle, but now speaking from the Beyond. In "passing over," his voice seems to have withered, and lost a fair bit of its Scot origin.

  1. Amazing to see and hear Doyle speak on film! Harry was only a year away from this technology if he had lived.
