With all the fuss about the History channel's abortion called Houdini, let's not overlook a really good "magic" film that played the same weekend on TCM. This Gun for Hire, starring Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd, had some delightful magic scenes like the one linked here.
It was sexy, stylish, noir-ish, entertaining, satisfying, and the two lead characters had real star chemistry - everything History's Houdini lacked.
They don't make 'em like that any more.
